Excelling at Sabeel

Allāh (swt) says,

“Whoever obeys Allāh and the Messenger will be with those whom Allāh has blessed: the Prophets and *the truthful*, the martyrs and the righteous. What excellent company such people are!” [Nisā’ (4):69]

The best of the people in jannah are the Prophets, then the Siddīqīn (truthful), then the shuhada, then the Salihīn (righteous). Allah is Pleased with all of them.

Becoming a siddiq: a comprehensive plan

Firstly you must be mentally prepared. Have it as an aim, a genuine real ambition to be a siddiq. You really want to be a siddiq. You constantly ask Allah to make you live as a siddiq. You always dream to have the highest place in Jannah after the prophets.

Secondly, look through the life of Abū Bakr al-Siddīq (ra). How did he live his life. Know and master his life as well as you know surah Al-Faatihah.  Emulate him, and then you will be a Siddiq, In Shaa Allah.

Narrated by Anas bin Malik (ra): The Prophet saas once climbed the mountain of Uhud with Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthman. The mountain shook with them. The Prophet said (to the mountain), “Be firm, O Uhud! For on you there are no more than a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs”. (The siddiq referred to here is Abu Bakr ra)

The unique point about Abu Bakr ra is that he excelled in every field in life. Therefore, let us  identify these fields and direct our efforts through them.

Those areas can be found in Surah al-’asr.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

وَالْعَصْرِ

I swear by the time,

إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ

Most surely man is in loss,

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ

Except those who believe and do good, and enjoin on each other truth, and enjoin on each other patience.

The essential components within which the Siddīq excels is summarised in verse 3 following “except those who..”. The following are the 7 key qualities of the siddiq, qualities that at Sabeel we are trying to encourage and develop.
